Why Crack Seal?
- To stop water from running below the asphalt into the underlying structure softening, freezing, or shifting the asphalt.
- With larger cracks dirt can settle and grow weeds creating an eye sore
- Filling in cracks before they become potholes can be the smartest thing you can do.
Types of cracks you should be looking for.
Hairline cracks: Cracks that are 1/8 inches wide or less are to small to seal effectively. If you find a cluster of these small cracks then seal coating the asphalt should be the step to take to prevent these from growing.
Small - Medium cracks:
Small to medium - Cracks that are 1/2 -3/4 inch wide will require a cleaning of the following up with rubberized hot crack sealer.
Large - Cracks that are larger then 2 inches should be filled with asphalt or cut out and repaved.
